When this record came out I tried everything to get my hair to stand up like Bowie's is on the cover of Pin Ups. It didn't even occur to me to try hairspray. That was so 60s back then. Looking at that side view of Bowie on the back cover, I am wondering if this could be the birth of the mullet? I've never really studied mullet history, but this hair style is a mullet variation.
I do appreciate this record in a lot of ways, because it was the first time I had heard some of these songs that Bowie covers. (In case you didn't know, Bowie puts his take on songs by 60s legends both well known, e.g. The Who and The Kinks, and some not as well known, e.g. Pretty Things and the Merseys. I heard a few months ago that the Pretty Things have a compilation out now.)
The first song I heard off this record was "Sorrow." I was watching The Midnight Special and a commercial ran with a shot of the album cover showing a tear running down Bowie's face.
I also didn't discover that "Twig the Wonderkid" on the cover with Bowie is Twiggy, the famous 60s model, until many years after I got the record. I used to have a Twiggy doll. Mattel painted heavy mascara on its Casey doll and put a short dress with vertical green and black stripes on it. Boy, I sure wish I had that now. Must be worth something. At least it would be to me. I was so into Twiggy in the 60s.
