This version of Fleetwood Mac featured Bob Welch, an American, at the mic helm. Even WKZL - which back then had the call letters WSGH (for Winston-Salem/Greensboro/High Point) - played "Hypnotized" from this record. The fact that North Carolina is mentioned in a line of that song might have added to its local popularity, but that is a very good song. Welch wrote that one, by the way, as well as another much-played song called "Emerald Eyes." Among the songs recorded for Mystery to Me was a Bob Welch composition called "Good Things (Come to Those Who Wait)." At the last minute, however, the record label decided the album didn't have a hit, so the band recorded a cover of The Yardbirds' "For Your Love" at the suggestion of guitarist Bob Weston. That song was released as a single, ironically, with "Hypnotized" as the B-side. But a few thousand copies of the record cover had already been printed with the Bob Welch song printed on the back as well as the song lyrics on an album insert. I have the original Deaconlight copy of Mystery to Me, which is one of those rare printings. The vinyl, however, has "For Your Love" on it.
Bob Welch eventually re-recorded the song for his 1979 album Three Hearts with the name "Don't Wait Too Long." From what I understand, the original Fleetwood Mac recording of "Good Things (Come to Those Who Wait)" has never been released. -- Orignally posted April 29, 2005 (DD) Original Album TracksFleetwood Mac Mystery to MeSpecial editions may have bonus tracks.
