Lene Lovich is one of the most unique female singers I have ever heard. Her voice really is an instrument. She first showed up at WFDD on a Stiff Records 45 of "Lucky Number," a fast-moving pop song that shows off her vocal talent. The 45 was an expanded version. I hope I still have it around here somewhere. Stateless is full of fun songs in addition to "Lucky Number." I'm looking at the cover right now and I realize I probably played every song on this record at least once and most of them lots, especially "Telepathy," "Home," "Say When," and "Momentary Breakdown." I remember when The Cars hosted The Midnight Special they insisted on picking all the artists. Lene Lovich didn't play live but they did show the video for "Lucky Number." This CD version has some bonus tracks including "Be Stiff," which was only out on a single "back then." There is also a Japanese version of her cover of "I Think We're Alone Now" (in addition to the English version). I have not kept up with her career over the years, but there is still interest in her because I see her name show up in my Web traffic stats a lot. -- June 13, 2005 (DD) |
