The Vapors - New Clear Days The Vapors - New Clear Days gets DD's double-double eighth note rating

Released June 1980

The Vapors were NOT NOT NOT a one-hit wonder. Even though most people only know this band for the hit "Turning Japanese," this album is full of really great songs. Check out "Bunkers" "Letter from Hiro," and "60-Second Interval." Great power pop punk along the lines of The Jam, The Dickes, early Elvis Costello, and Supergrass.

Do you remember an old comedy show called "Tush" that used to run on TBS back when it was Channel 17? It was hosted by Bill Tush, who later became a CNN host. This was one of the funniest shows ever to hit television. Too bad it didn't last. Jan Hooks, who later went on to "Saturday Night Live" was on that show.

Anyway, they had some cool live acts, and The Vapors was one of them. That was the only time I saw The Vapors perform.

I cannot find any Vapors songs on iTunes, but that's a good thing because maybe someone wanting a copy of the song "Turning Japanese" will get the entire CD and hear how great it is. In fact, as I was typing up the album tracks below, I got a hankering to hear "Bunkers" so I just slapped on side two and "News at 10" is blasting! Now I wanna dance......
