The first time I heard Wall of Voodoo was in 1980 when the Weekend Wizard brought in this Wall of Voodoo EP to the radio station. I don't know why we didn't get a copy at WFDD because IRS was good at getting product to us. I quickly became hooked on "The Passenger" and "Ring of Fire." Then we got a 12" with a remix of "Ring of Fire" and "The Morricone Themes" (a mix of the themes from the Clint Eastwood movies "Hang 'm High and "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly").
That EP and 12" have now been combined into a single CD with some other cool stuff called The Index Masters. When originally wrote this essay, The Index Masters was usually pretty pricey because it was hard to find. A few months later it was a remastered version was released so there is no excuse not to have this CD in your collection.
In addition to the early stuff, there are live versions of "Tomorrow" (my favorite song from Call of the West), and some songs from Dark Continent including the amazing "Back in Flesh." I sure wish I would have had the chance to see them live way back then. I'll bet they were awesome. Did you ever see them in the early 1980s live before Stan Ridgway left? Let me know how it was.
