The The - Soul Mining

This is one of my most-played LPs. I first heard The The - aka Matt Johnson - when I received a 12" 45 of "Uncertain Smile." That version was 10 minutes long and I never wanted it to end. The LP version is shorter. It wasn't until the late 1980s I discovered his first record, "Burning Blue Soul," which is even more cerebral. There is an interesting interview with Matt Johnson in Charles Neal's book Tape Delay. (Charles also worked at WKZL in the early 80s under the name Neal Casady.)
