Taking Back Sunday (Jun. 28, 2011) - Taking Back Sunday

Taking Back Sunday - Taking Back Sunday album cover« Taking Back Sunday

Taking Back Sunday's singer Adam Lazzara and I sat down for a long conversation recently. Among the topics we discussed, of course, was this self-titled record and its songs.

The cover art was released in mid-April. Adam had told me, "We decided with this record to just leave it self-titled, which is actually funny 'cause we're running into some kind of problems with the artwork. When it's self-titled and everybody played such a big part in the writing that it's kind of hard to find one direction that everybody really loves."

Taking Back Sunday April Fool's album coverI nearly fell for Taking Back Sunday's April Fool's joke. On the band's website, a goofy pic of guitarist Eddie Reyes surrounded by peacock feathers was posted and touted as the cover art for the new record.

Taking Back Sunday - Taking Back Sunday Original Album Tracks

Song comments here are from my March 2011 interview with Adam Lazarra.

  1. El Paso

"The whole reason it's called "El Paso" is 'cause when we got back together, that's where we went. There's this place called The Sonic Ranch that's right outside of El Paso but it's right on the border. It's this huge pecan farm.

The guy Tony that runs it - he has like a couple of different studio houses. So we just went and stayed in one. There's nothing around so after about a week there you start to go a little crazy just 'cause there's no outside influence. Kind of like the "Shining" kind of theory - cabin fever.

So that's why we named it "El Paso." When I think about how I felt there, I think of this song."
